Dental Bridges
We offer dental bridges as an alternative to dentures or dental implants. This treatment is for replacing one or more missing teeth.
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a false tooth that fills in the space that’s been created by a missing tooth. It’s anchored by the teeth on either side of the gap. The false tooth is shaped and coloured like a regular tooth to blend in with your other teeth, and it’s permanently cemented into place.
The procedure starts with an examination of your mouth to determine which teeth need to be altered and what type of bridge is needed. A mould will then be taken so that the dentist can make an impression of your teeth for the bridge. This will be sent off for lab work where it will be made into a custom-fit piece for you. When it’s ready, it’ll be returned to our office where we’ll cement it into place using dental cement or adhesive material so that it is securely attached to your natural teeth.
Why a Bridge?
A crown is used to fortify a tooth and protect it from further damage. Fillings that are too large have a tendency to break or leak. Crowns take the place of a large filling, providing a permanent solution to a broken tooth. Other benefits include:
- Fill space of missing teeth
- Upgrade from a removable partial denture
- Prevention of teeth drifting from their original position
- Restore the ability to chew properly
- Restore your speech and pronunciation
- Maintain facial shape
- Restore you smile aesthetic
A dental bridge is the best alternative for missing teeth and can help prevent more serious problems like bone loss. The longevity of your new smile depends on the care you give it. With regular checkups and good oral hygiene habits, your new smile should last up to 10 years.
A fixed tooth replacement can prevent more serious problems like bone loss and help maintain your oral health in general.
